You don’t need any special qualification other than the ability to read and write in English. Really, that’s all. You don’t have to be an essayist. You might simply be interested in essayism.

Essayism is a craft. It is something we can practise, explore and share. It is, in the best sense, totally do-able. These conversations are about the craft. Pose a thought. Ask a question. Stretch your imagination. Look at something from another angle.

The conversations are held on Substack, an internet platform and, in this case, just a bit of a walled garden. To receive the letters and participate in the conversation, you’ll need to create an account. A username and password will do. There is no fee and nothing onerous. This simple precaution helps keep us all safe while we chat about our shared passion.

Once you’ve signed up, you’ll receive the occasional letter and have the opportunity to participate in the conversation whenever you wish.
